What size is an O-ring?
Each Pi Tape will measure to the thousandths of an inch (. 001”). There are various size options depending on the ID you need to measure, but the most common sizes are 2-12”, 12-24”, 24-36”, 36-48”, and 48-60”.
How are large O-rings measured?
To measure the outside diameter, use a ruler to measure from one outer edge to the other of the o – ring. You can determine the third diameter of the O – ring with 2 diameters using the following equation: Outside Diameter (OD) = Inside Diameter + (2 x Cross Section). Inside Diameter (ID) = OD – (2 x Cross Section).

What is the smallest O-ring?
PAI is the home of the World’s Smallest O – Ring, measuring. 004″ C/S x. 004″ ID.

How much compression should an O ring have?
In static seals, where the O – Ring is not in axial motion in the bore, the recommended maximum compression is approximately 40%. In dynamic seals, such as a piston moving inside a cylinder, the recommended maximum compression is somewhat less at 30%.

Are all O rings the same?
Whether sold individually, in large wholesale batches or – as is increasingly common – as part of a highly flexible range of o – ring kits, the basic form and role of o – rings are generally the same across the board.

What is CS in O-ring?
An O – ring is a solid- rubber seal shaped like a doughnut or torus. When compressed between mating surfaces, an O – ring blocks the passage of liquids or gases. Two dimensions describe the size of an O – ring: its inside diameter (ID) and its cross-sectional diameter ( CS ) (see Figure 1).
Is standard for O-ring?
The standard sizes used by O – ring manufacturers in the United States are defined by Aerospace Standard AS568B, Aerospace Size Standard for O – rings. The standard sizes are also used for most military specifications. Cross-sectional diameters range from 0.040 to 0.275 inch.
What is the best O-ring material?
Nitrile rubber materials are the most commonly used general purpose o-ring material because of relative low cost, good mechanical properties, and performance with many basic oils, fuels, and lubricants.
How do you identify an O-ring?
How to Measure O – Rings
- Place the O – ring on a clean, flat, level surface.
- Determine the inside diameter by using a ruler to measure from one inner edge to another.
- Use a ruler to measure the diameter, from one outer corner of the O – ring to the other outer corner.
- Finally, measure the cross-section. Place the O – ring into a vernier caliper.
